Overview
Din Moh’Drun is the capital city of the Moh’Drun Empire, the largest semi-subterranean city in Lendahnna and one of the oldest cities in the world. Adamantine walls protect the small portions of the city that grace the open air of Lendahnna, and over the ages shrewd and keen smiths have developed air passages to keep the rest of the subterranean metropolis well supplied with fresh air. In the underground stronghold there are various districts within the cavernous and winding city. The Empire holds law and order well managed, and the various classes of citizens tend to be in line, there are in the deep grimy subsects of the city are those with chaotic plots and criminal intent, and of course no powerful city is without its corruption.
Controlling Nation
The Moh’Drun Empire controls Din Moh’Drun and uses the city as its long standing capital.
Defenses
On the surface, the walls of Din Moh’Drun are made of reinforced enchanted Adamantine, making it one of the most sturdy bastion walls in existence. The city, guard, and army are also equipped with numerous quick deployment locations and anti siege weaponry.
The gates to the city of Din Moh’Drun are well monitored and heavy inspection over trade goods both entering and exiting the city. Individual and small group travelers are not as restricted but are likely still being observed as they come and go from the capital.
On the subterranean side of things, the mines, depths, and various passages out of the city in the underside of Oruk’s Mir are watched valiantly by the military, similar way stations for goods coming and going from the other subterranean cities of the Moh’Drun Empire. Where the parts of the city gather close to the borders of the Underdark, there is a two pronged defense. The first is a group of well trained Dire Mole Calvary, and the second is a strong alliance with the Duergar’s further down in the earth.
Din Moh’Drun is one of the ‘untouchable’ cities and even during The Relinquent was not heavily damaged, most of which came from internal strife rather than external.
Population and Size
Din Moh’Drun is home to roughly 3 million citizens. The city covers a twenty square mile area on the surface, and two hundred square mile area in total in its subterranean portions.
Most of its citizens are Dwarves, Drow Elves, Humans, Half Elves, Goliath, Duergar, Rock Gnomes and Halflings. However all kinds of individuals live in Din Moh’Drun.
Culture
Like any major metropolis, the culture of Din Moh’Drun is varied, diverse, and divided depending on the location, individuals, and areas one may be within the city. The concepts mentioned in this area account for some general points that the city can pride itself on and the citizens have in general. They do not represent all of the individuals or ideals of the city.
With the military prowess of the Moh’Drun Empire, it would be of no surprise that the control and belief in that military is a firm aspect of life in Din Moh’Drun. Not only are there are great deal of training garrisons, outposts, and recruitment. The citizens of the city regularly rely, and support the guards and soldiers of the Empire. Though there are obviously plenty of individuals and groups of people who are not as for the heavy law enforcement and military presence.
Mining, physical work, and heavy craftsman trades are well respected and a large part of the economic and general workforce in Din Moh’Drun. This leads a large number of its citizens to work in some area revolving this, and it being a lynchpin of the economic power for not only the city but nation. As such, regardless of position on the governments regulation of such work, the respect of crafts, trade, and harvestmen are prominent.
Din Moh’Drun serves a very wide range of Ancestries and people from all over Lendahnna have moved and relocated to the city. The Empire and its people are generally warm and welcoming, but the isolationist views of its government from a military prospective trickle down into small community structure. Outsiders, or even those from neighboring districts within the city may be wary of one another, not for cultural differences but for their own protective ideals. This can make gossip or even local political discussion boil down to arguments not over differences in ideals but addresses.
History
Din Moh’Drun was founded before the Moh’Drun Empire was founded. The city originally being home to clan Moh’Drun of which the first Emperor hailed from. After the gathering of the clans and Mortals under the Imperial banner, the city saw itself as the gateway and central city for the nation and declared its capital.
As the expansion of the nation continued, the city followed suit. Eventually building beyond the borders of the physical mountain face, or expanding to other caverns for new districts. It has remained in its current state for nearly the last thousand years. The Relinquent did bring in an influx of migrants, many of whom have remained for safety even a century later.
